‘Metamorphosis’ traces the evolution of the ‘bench’ through the singularity of a seamless sculptural gesture. The story of the ‘bench’ begins from its most primordial and natural iteration – the fallen log in nature as man’s first bench. Through steady metamorphosis, the sculpture eventuates as an abstraction of the essential ‘bench’ – the thinnest possible gravity-defying two-dimensional plane. Abstracted in white solid surface (Corian by Dupont) the piece also serves as a commentary on the processes and resources involved in the materialization of design by the human hand.
