The 50s

Etere, Living, Kosmos / The Re-edition for Prada and Miù Miù

In the 1950s, Saporiti Italia was just a small workshop producing upholstered furniture (sofas, chairs, armchairs, beds) and wooden furniture (tables, coffee tables, cabinets, wardrobes).
The style of the objects produced by Sergio Saporiti was directly influenced by Scandinavian design and American modernism.

The Kosmos and Etere armchairs, Living and Baretium sofas, designed by architect Augusto Bozzi, are some of the most important products from Saporiti Italia during these years.
These objects were so well-designed and timeless that in 2018, Prada asked Saporiti Italia to reissue the Kosmos and Living series for use in some of their Prada and Miù Miù showrooms around the world.
Also, the 1955 Compasso d’Oro-winning coffee table, designed by Augusto Bozzi, plays an important role in the history of Saporiti Italia.
It was the first Saporiti Italia product selected for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro Award, the most prestigious recognition in the world of design, created in 1954 by Rinascente with Alberto Rosselli, Gio Ponti, Abe Steiner, Bruno Munari, and other great Italian design masters.

Functionality and style. Simple, rational shapes that are modern and reassuring but also comfortable.
Curved and soft shapes, achieved with new technologies for bending plywood.
However, compared to Scandinavian products, which were made exclusively with natural woods and light colors, the first products from Saporiti Italia already featured innovative aspects in their forms, fabrics, and colors.
