For many years, Saporiti Italia has had a presence in Asia, with direct bases in Singapore and Shanghai.
In the process of researching new products for its international clients, Saporiti Italia has always sought to blend Italian style and technique with local culture and traditions.
In China, the tradition of offering tea to guests plays a major role in both personal and business relationships, much like how we customarily welcome friends and clients with a cup of coffee. The preparation of tea follows an interesting and enjoyable ritual, almost a ceremony, in which the host prepares the tea by pouring hot water from a series of containers, teapots, and cups.
The result is a very modern and technological object, distinctly made in Italy, yet inspired by and functional for the practices and gestures of the Chinese ceremony.
The “East Meets West” table is a large monobloc that can be broken down into a series of seating elements, trolleys, and containers. An induction heating surface integrated into the top of the table allows water to be boiled, which is then collected in the central element and finally drained into a hidden tank in the table’s base. A video screen provides relaxing images, enhancing the enjoyment of this hospitality ritual.
Saporiti Italia commissioned the renowned architecture firm Fuksas Architects, based in Rome, Paris, and Shenzhen, which has completed many important projects in China, to reimagine a table for the Chinese tea ceremony.
